Scratch board drawing (2005). This way a photograph taken by Diana Mulvihill that I stumbled upon one day--I couldn't stop thinking about it.
The Son of Man: Interpretation
Oil painting (2006). Our assignment was to recreate a famous painting and create new meaning from it. I chose Renee Magritte's "The Son of Man." Magritte said, "Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see, but it is impossible. Humans hide their secrets too well ..." A bite out of the apple was the change--a small gesture that translates the meaning into one of trying to understand, trying to finally grasp the truth.
Oil painting of hands (2006). Inspired from a photograph I found. I wanted to make this painting feel incredibly tangible.
Charcoal still life (2004)
Contour drawing (2003). The foundation of all art work is developing the skill of drawing. This was one of my earliest contour drawings in marker.
