In this lively typography exercise, we began by creating a “face” using only 6–8 letterforms; the typefaces used to create this baby face were Optima, MrsEaves, and Baskerville. We then created a magazine cover that expresses the emotion in this face. Initially, only 3 colors could be used. They were carefully chosen, focusing on how the addition of color could further evoke the emotion portrayed in this face. Further renditions added more color to the original 3, and concentrated on color properties such as contrast of hue, contrast of saturation, and warm/cool contrast.
